Tottenham are in pole position ahead of Chelsea and Manchester United to sign Serge Aurier after agreeing personal terms with the Paris Saint-Germain full-back, according to L’Equipe via French Football News.
Aurier is expected to leave the Parc des Princes following the arrival of Dani Alves from Juventus and he was left out of PSG’s pre-season plans in order to negotiate a move away from the club.
The Ivory Coast international has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks with Manchester United and Chelsea touted as potential destinations for the defender.
However, it looks as though Tottenham have now moved themselves in to pole position as French Football News are citing a report from L’Equipe that claims Spurs have now agreed terms over a five-year contract with Aurier’s agents.
The north Londoners are now expected to thrash out a deal with PSG with the French outlet suggesting the Ligue 1 giants will do business at just £22.5m (€25m) as they are desperate to get Aurier off their books.
Mauricio Pochettino is expected to be extremely busy during the closing stages of the window having failed to sign a single player so far and Aurier would be seen as a replacement for Kyle Walker if he does complete a move to North London.
However, the race isn’t over just yet as L’Equipe claim that Chelsea have also approached Aurier’s representatives about a possible move to Stamford Bridge so they could yet compete with Spurs for his signature.
Antonio Conte is desperate to further strengthen his squad before the end of the month and Aurier would offer stiff competition to Victor Moses in the right wing-back role if Chelsea managed to lure him to west London.
There could also be further competition from Old Trafford as the report says United maintain an interest in Aurier, although any deal with the Red Devils is being complicated by the amount of intermediary agents trying to get involved.
L’Equipe say that Inter Milan and Juventus are also showing an interest but Aurier’s priority is to move to the Premier League so it’s going to be interesting to see where he ends up.
