Manchester United are ready to try and hijack Tottenham’s attempts to sign highly-rated Fulham defender Ryan Sessegnon, according to Sky Sports News.
Sessegnon emerged as one of the hottest properties outside of the Premier League after enjoying a breakthrough year at Cravan Cottage that saw him score 7 goals in 31 appearances last season.
The 17-year-old has been with Fulham since he was nine-years-old and progressed through the youth system to establish himself as a first team regular while he’s also represented England at youth level.
Predictably the teenager has attracted interest from the top flight with several clubs reportedly showing a keen interest but Sessegnon appeared to end speculation over his future after signing a three-year contract in June.
However, that didn’t deter Tottenham as the Mirror reported last week that the north Londoners had tested Fulham’s resolve by submitting an opening £25m offer for Sessegnon services.
Mauricio Pochettino is expected to be extremely active during the closing stages of the transfer window and Sessegnon could be viewed as a long-term replacement for Danny Rose after he cast doubt over his future at White Hart Lane recently.
Fulham are determined to hang on to Sessegnon for at least another season but even if they do decide to cash-in, then it looks like Spurs will face stiff competition from United.
Sky Sports claim Jose Mourinho is a huge admirer of the teenager and will allow him to continue his development on loan at Fulham this season if United are able to agree a deal for his signature.
That could be tempting for the west Londoners as it would mean they’d secure a large fee and get to keep hold of the player for another 12 months but the report suggests that Fulham own Shahid Khan remains adamant Sessegnon won’t be sold this summer, even for £25m.

That’s an obscene amount of money for a teenager who’s never played in the Premier League but Sessegnon is a huge talent and no doubt he’ll be worth a lot more next summer if he continues to develop over the coming season.
