Sky Sports Expert Claims La Liga Star Was ‘Determined’ To Join Man Utd This Summer
Sky Sports expert Guillem Balague claims Antoine Griezmann was determined to join Man Utd this summer and could still make the move in 12 months time
Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the final weeks of the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Antoine Griezmann is linked with Man Utd….
Sky Sports expert Guillem Balague claims Antoine Griezmann was determined to join Manchester United this summer and could still make the move in 12 months time, according to The Sun.
Griezmann was strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford during the early stages of the summer with The Sun even reporting in June that the forward had agreed personal terms worth £280,000-a-week with United.
However, the proposed big-money move was derailed after Atletico Madrid were slapped with a transfer ban and Griezmann decided he couldn’t leave the club as they would be unable to sign a replacement.
The 26-year-old eventually signed a new contract extension at the Vicente Calderon while United ended up splashing £75m on the signing of Romelu Lukaku from Everton.
Griezmann has sparked fresh rumours about a potential move to Manchester after hinting on social media recently that he regrets not joining United this summer following their flying start to the new season.
Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has now claimed that Griezmann was ‘determined’ to join United and hinted that a deal could still be resurrected next summer.
The pundit is quoted by The Sun as telling Sky Sports:
“He is with a team which has played in Champions League finals and also won the league recently – more recently than Manchester United – so he is already at one of the top teams in Europe.
“He is playing with the fans and he will continue to do that with teasing messages but it is quite clear he will consider a move to Old Trafford next summer. This summer it’s impossible but next summer, who knows?”
“Quite clearly, he was determined to go to Manchester United and it’s just the fact he didn’t want to let Atletico Madrid down while they couldn’t sign anyone that made him decide to stay.
“He had made his mind up to go to Old Trafford though, so we will see what happens as 12 months is a long time.”
Griezmann’s frustration at missing out on a move to United may have led to his temper boiling over as he was sent off during Atletico’s 2-2 draw at Girona last weekend.
The French international would obviously be a sensational signing for United if they could get a deal agreed next summer as he’s developed in to one of the best forward’s in Europe since joining Atletico in 2014.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming season but I wouldn’t be surprised if we see United go big to try and land Griezmann next year and I’d love to see him come to the Premier League.
