Chelsea and Manchester United are set for a transfer battle after Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan hinted he’d like to test himself in the Premier League
The transfer window may be closed but clubs are still working hard ahead of January and next summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Radja Nainggolan eyes a move to England…
Chelsea and Manchester United are set for a transfer battle after Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan hinted he’d like to test himself in the Premier League, according to the Mirror.
Nainggolan has developed in to one of the best central midfielders in Italian football since moving to Roma in 2014 while he’s also become a regular for the Belgian national team.
His powerful displays in the middle of the park have led to reported interest from Chelsea and Man Utd with the Daily Mail reporting last summer that both clubs wanted to sign the midfielder.
Nainggolan ended up staying at Roma and played the full ninety minutes as the Serie A outfit played-out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last night.
Antonio Conte confirmed his interest in signing the 29-year-old ahead of the Champions League clash which has prompted a response from Nainggolan with the midfielder thanking the Blues boss and praising him as a ‘really good coach’.
When asked about his first experience of playing in England and Conte’s comments, Nainggolan is quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“Yeah, good atmosphere. Thank you [to Antonio Conte] for the words, but at the end of the day we’re playing against each other and I have to do my job.
“I think he’s a really good coach because his results over the past few years speak for themselves.
“But in the end I have to do what I have to do, and that’s playing for Roma and giving the maximum for Roma.”
When pushed on whether he would like to play in the Premier League, Nainggolan put Chelsea and United on alert after hinting he’d like to test himself here in England. He continued:
“Yeah, it’s a good league. Beautiful stadiums, good atmospheres in the stadiums, but at the moment my head is only there [at Roma].”
The Mirror suggest that Chelsea and United could now battle-it-out for Nainggolan’s signature next summer and it will be interesting to see if either club will be able to get a deal agreed with Roma.

Chelsea have endured injury problems in central midfield all season while United need to find a replacement for Michael Carrick and Nainggolan would be an excellent signing for either club.
