Chelsea Star Confirms He Could Miss Crucial Man Utd Showdown
N’Golo Kante has revealed he’s still rated just 50-50 to be fit for Chelsea’s huge clash with Manchester United this weekend, according to the Mirror.
N’Golo Kante has revealed he’s still rated just 50-50 to be fit for Chelsea’s huge clash with Manchester United this weekend, according to the Mirror.
Kante has been on the sidelines since suffering a hamstring strain during the last international break after the midfielder limped off during France’s 1-0 win over Bulgaria.
The 26-year-old has missed Chelsea’s last six matches in all competitions and his absence has been sorely felt – particularly as fellow midfielder Danny Drinkwater has also been on the sidelines.
Kante returned to training earlier this week but wasn’t included in the squad to face AS Roma last night as Chelsea slumped to a hugely disappointing 3-0 defeat at the Stadio Olimpico.
Antonio Conte confirmed to reporters after the game that he wasn’t prepared to risk Kante and suggested the midfielder would only return to the side when he feels 100% fit.
The Chelsea boss is quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“After an important muscular problem, it would be stupid to risk it, so when Kante feels at 100 per cent, he will return to playing,”
The Blues are praying the midfield anchorman will be ready to face United on Sunday, however, Kante told reporters last night that he was still only rated 50-50 to make the game this weekend.
The Mirror claim the Frenchman revealed the news as he walked through the media zone after last night’s game and it will be a huge concern to Conte as he looks to get Chelsea’s campaign back on track.
Kante scored against United in both the Premier League and the FA Cup last season and he’s one of Chelsea’s most influential players so Conte will be desperate for him to be passed fit on Sunday.
Chelsea head in to the weekend action sitting fourth in the table – four points adrift of United and nine off leaders Man City – so they need a positive result in order to keep their title hopes alive.
