Man Utd Open Talks Over £136m Double Swoop For World Class Duo
Manchester United are ready to launch a stunning £136m double swoop for Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann and Real Madrid star Gareth Bale
The transfer window may be closed but clubs are still working hard ahead of January and next summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are linked with two La Liga stars….
Manchester United are ready to launch a stunning £136m double swoop for Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann and Real Madrid star Gareth Bale, according to a report in the Mirror.
United reclaimed second place in the Premier League table with a comfortable win over Newcastle on Saturday but they remain eight points adrift of Man City so Jose Mourinho knows he still needs to further strengthen his squad.
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic expected to leave when his contract expires at the end of the season, Mourinho needs to bring in attacking reinforcements and it looks like he’s ready to raid La Liga for two of it’s stars.
The Mirror are citing a report from The Sun that claims United have set their sights on Griezmann and Bale with the Manchester giants ready to splash out £136m on the duo.
Griezmann was strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford last summer but decided to remain at Atletico after they were slapped with a transfer ban which meant they wouldn’t have been able to buy a replacement.
However, the newspaper claims United held negotiations with Atletico chiefs and Griezmann’s agents during the recent international break to discuss a fresh move for the forward.
The French international has an £86m buyout clause written in to his contract and United were prepared to meet it last summer but the report suggests they are trying to drive the price down due to Griezmann’s poor form this season.
The 26-year-old has failed to score in his last eight games and has scored just 3 times in his 14 appearances in all competitions this season – which is a long way off the 26 he bagged last term.
United have also long been linked with Bale and The Sun – via the Mirror – claim Mourinho will renew his interest despite the Welshman suffering from a number of injury problems.
Bale has missed Madrid’s last 11 games and has been ruled out until the New Year due to an abductor injury and there are rumours that the European champions are growing tired of his constant injury woes.
It looks like United are ready to test the Spanish giants resolve and the newspaper suggests they could try to do business at just £50m – which would be an absolute bargain for a player of Bale’s quality in today’s market.
I personally don’t think there is a chance Madrid would sell for just £50m as the 28-year-old is still one of the best players in the world when fit but no doubt United would be willing to pay a higher fee to get their man.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming months but it would be a sensational double swoop if United were able to land both Griezmann and Bale ahead of next season.
