Manchester United and Tottenham are ready to step-up their interest in Gareth Bale after Guangzhou Evergrande tabled an £84m bid for the Real Madrid super-star
The January transfer window is now open so clubs are working hard trying to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season and put deals in place for the summer. Today, the latest on Gareth Bale….
Manchester United and Tottenham are ready to step-up their interest in Gareth Bale after Guangzhou Evergrande tabled an £84m bid for the Real Madrid super-star, according to reports in Spain via the Daily Star.
Bale developed in to one of the best attackers in world football during his time at Tottenham before joining Madrid in a then world-record deal in the summer of 2013.
The 28-year-old has continued to forge a reputation as a world class star during his spell in Spain as he’s provided 74 goals and 56 assists in 165 appearances to help Madrid land a whole host of honours including 3 Champions League’s.
However, Bale has been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu in recent months as growing reports suggest Madrid are ready to cash-in due to the Welsh international’s injury problems.
Bale was restricted to just 27 appearances in all competitions last season and has made just 15 this campaign due to a variety of injuries and it seems Madrid chiefs are becoming increasingly frustrated with the amount of time he spends on the sidelines.
The situation has alerted clubs here in the Premier League with the Daily Star claiming that Man Utd and Tottenham are both keen on luring Bale back to England if he does leave Madrid.
United have been long-term admirers and Jose Mourinho could be eyeing Bale as a marquee signing as he knows he needs to further strengthen his squad if they are to catch rivals Man City.
Tottenham would no doubt jump at the chance of re-signing their former star as Bale would compliment a talented young squad if he was to move back to White Hart Lane.
Any potential swoop wasn’t expected to happen until the summer, however, it looks like United and Spurs are ready to step-up their interest as the Daily Star is citing a report from Don Balon that claims Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande have submitted a formal £84m bid.
Madrid could be tempted to cash-in at that price as it would allow them to recoup the money they paid in 2013 but the Spanish publication says Bale has no interest in moving to the Far East at this stage in his career.
However, the report indicates that the Welshman would be keen on moving back to the Premier League and the Daily Star claims United and Spurs are expected to table offers of their own in the near future.

We’ll have to wait and see how this all develops but I personally think Bale would be an excellent signing for United or Spurs – although I suspect any potential move won’t happen until the summer.
