Man Utd Favourites Ahead Of Chelsea To Sign 26-Year-Old Italian International

Manchester United are leading the race ahead of Chelsea to sign Napoli midfielder Jorginho at the end of the season, according to a report in the Express.

Jorginho has developed in to one of the best defensive midfielders in Serie A since joining Napoli from Verona in 2014 and he’s also broken in to the Italian national team set-up.

His impressive form has attracted interest from the Premier League with several clubs reportedly tracking the midfielder while the Express reported last month that Man Utd had opened talks about taking Jorginho’s to Old Trafford.

The players agent, Joao Santos, recently fuelled the speculation after suggesting that Napoli could be willing to cash-in on the Italian international this summer and have already lined-up a replacement.

The Express are citing BetStars as saying that United have now been installed as 3/1 bookmakers favourites to land Jorginho with Chelsea second-favourites at odds of 7/1.

BetStars director of trading Ian Marmion is quoted as saying by the Express:

“Napoli’s Jorginho could be on his way to Manchester United after his agent claimed the Serie A leaders may look to sell the midfielder in the summer.

“United are in pole position to sign Jorginho and are currently priced as the clear 3/1 favourites to bring the Italian to Old Trafford in the summer as a replacement for Michael Carrick.

“Also in the hunt for the Italian midfielder are Chelsea (7/1) and Liverpool (8/1).”

Jose Mourinho is in the market for midfield reinforcements as Michael Carrick will retire in June while Marouane Fellaini’s contract is up in the summer and he’s shown no sign of penning an extension.

Jorginho is seemingly on the United managers radar but he could yet face competition from the likes of Chelsea as the Blues are also in the hunt for the 26-year-old and they are tipped to sign a central midfielder this summer as Tiemoue Bakayoko has failed to impress following his move from Monaco.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming months but I think Jorginho would be an excellent addition for United or Chelsea if one of those clubs could lure him to England this summer.
