Manchester United are ready to test Tottenham’s resolve by launching a move to sign £55m-rated midfielder Eric Dier ahead of the summer window, according to a report in the Mirror.
Dier joined Sporting Lisbon as a youngster but made a move to Tottenham in 2014 and has become an integral part of Mauricio Pochettino’s starting eleven over the past two years.
The 24-year-old began his career as a centre-back but has excelled in his favoured defensive midfield role this season and he’s currently keeping Victor Wanyama out of the team.
Dier’s impressive form has attracted interest from Man Utd with the Red Devils strongly linked with a move for the England international last summer before they eventually signed Nemanja Matic from Chelsea.
However, Jose Mourinho is expected to sign at least one central midfielder this summer as Michael Carrick is due to retire while Marouane Fellaini is set to leave when his contract expires in June.
The Mirror are siting a report from TransferMarketWeb that claims United are ready to renew their interest in Dier and will test Tottenham’s resolve to keep hold of the midfielder this summer.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is a tough negotiator and no doubt the north Londoners will be keen to keep Dier at the club ahead of their move to their new stadium next season.
I’m sure Spurs would also be reluctant to sell to a domestic rival, however, the report suggests that Tottenham would be open to negotiations over Dier if United were to table a bid worth around £55m.

United certainly have the financial muscle to pay that kind of money and they’d be able to tempt Dier with a significant wage increase so it will be interesting to see what happens over the coming months.
