The summer transfer window is now open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Fred is close to joining Man Utd…
Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred has been snapped arriving at Carrington this morning to undergo his medical ahead of a £53m move to Manchester United, according to the Daily Mail.
Jose Mourinho is looking to sign at least one central midfielder this summer as Marouane Fellaini is set to leave when his contract expires later this month while Michael Carrick has moved in to a coaching role.
Fred has been touted as one of United’s prime targets in recent weeks and they emerged as favourites for his signature after rivals Manchester City turned their attention to Napoli star Jorginho.
The Daily Mail reported over the weekend that Fred was set to undergo a medical this week after United had reached an agreement with Shakhtar over a deal that could reach £53m including add-ons.
It seems the transfer is edging closer to completion as the newspaper has now published a photo that they claim shows Fred arriving in a black Mercedes at United’s Carrington training base this morning.
The Daily Mail says the 25-year-old will now undergo his medical today and barring any late complications, Fred will soon be confirmed as United’s first major signing of the summer.
The midfielder played during Brazil’s 2-0 friendly win over Croatia at Anfield on Sunday so it made sense for him to undergo his medical while he was in the north-west and it means the transfer can be wrapped-up before the World Cup.
Fred is expected to play an important role in the Brazil side this summer as they prepare to take on Switzerland, Costa Rica and Serbia in Group E, so he’ll want his future resolved before flying out to Russia.

The South American has been a key player for Shakhtar since joining the Ukrainian giants from Internacional in 2013 so I think he’s got the potential to be an excellent addition to United’s squad.
