Manchester United are ready to launch a £30m bid to sign Valencia star Jose Luis Gaya as Jose Mourinho looks to strengthen his full-back options this summer, according to a report in the Metro.
Mourinho knows he needs to build a squad capable of competing with Manchester City after finishing 19 points adrift of the Premier League champions last season and United have already snapped-up right-back Diogo Dalot from Porto and central midfielder Fred from Shakhtar Dontesk.
However, left-back has been an area of concern for Mourinho ever since he arrived at Old Trafford two years ago and although Ashley Young has proven to be a solid option since emerging as United’s first choice, he’ll turn 33 next month so a long-term replacement is desperately needed.
Luke Shaw was once considered to be one of the most promising left-backs in Europe but his future is in serious doubt as he’s being tipped to leave United after falling out-of-favour under Mourinho and was publicly criticised at times last season.
United have been linked with Alex Sandro in recent months but the Mirror, via the Metro, claim the Red Devils have turned their attention to Gaya as Juventus are demanding at least £50m for the Brazilian international.
The newspaper says Mourinho has expressed his interest in signing Gaya and United are now ready to test Valencia’s resolve with a £30m swoop for the talented Spanish U21 star.
The 23-year-old has been with Valencia his entire career having come through their youth ranks and he signed a new long-term contract last month after developing in to a vital first team player at the Mestalla.
However, Valencia could see this is the perfect time to cash-in on Gaya and the newspaper suggests the left-back could be tempted by the prospect of a big-money move to the Premier League.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but Gaya would be an exciting signing if United could pull it off and he could be their first choice left back for the next decade if he moves to Old Trafford.
