Man Utd Hope To Beat Chelsea To Signing Of £175m Star After Opening Talks With Agent
Manchester United have stolen a march on Chelsea after opening talks with the agent of £175m-rated striker Robert Lewandowski to discuss a move this summer
The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are looking to trump Chelsea to the signing of Robert Lewandowski….
Manchester United have stolen a march on Chelsea after opening talks with the agent of £175m-rated striker Robert Lewandowski to discuss a move this summer, according to reports via TeamTalk.
Lewandowski has been one of the most prolific strikers in world football in recent years and he continued his stunning form with 41 goals in his 48 appearances for Bayern last season to help fire them to the Bundesliga title.
It means the Polish international has scored a stunning 151 goals in 195 games since making a controversial move to Bayern from Borussia Dortmund in 2014 while he’s also scored 51 times for his country.
However, Lewandowski’s future at the Allianz Arena is in serious doubt after the striker went public with his desire to leave this summer in search of a new challenge.
His agent, Pini Zahavi, confirmed they have expressed Lewandowski’s wishes to the Bayern hierarchy and the representative has reportedly been offering his client around Europe’s leading clubs.
Zahavi is quoted as saying by TeamTalk:
“Robert feels he needs a change and a new challenge in his career. The managers of Bayern know about it.”
Understandably, there has been no shortage of interest with TeamTalk claiming that Chelsea and Man Utd have been linked with the player along with the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
Chelsea are expected to be in the market for another striker this summer amid speculation linking Alvaro Morata with a move away from Stamford Bridge and it seems the west Londoners have Lewandowski on their radar.
However, United have stolen a march on their rivals as TeamTalk are citing a report from France Football that claims the Red Devils have opened formal talks with Zahavi to discuss a move for Lewandowski.
Jose Mourinho knows he needs to strengthen his squad if United are to compete with Manchester City for the Premier League title next season and Lewandowski would certainly make a huge difference if they could get a deal agreed.
But that’s not going to be an easy task as the report says Bayern are reluctant to sell and with the 29-year-old under contract for another three years, the German giants are demanding £175m for his signature.

United have the financial muscle to pay that kind of money but it remains to be seen whether they would sanction such a deal given that Lewandowski will turn 30 in August so is approaching the final years of his career.
