Man Utd To Complete £60m Signing Within 48 Hours After Breakthrough In Talks
Manchester United are set to wrap-up a £60m deal to sign Toby Alderweireld after finding a breakthrough in talks with Tottenham Hotspur
There is plenty of Manchester United gossip doing the rounds in the papers with the English giants linked with a whole host of star names. Today, United are closing in on Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld….
Manchester United are set to wrap-up a £60m deal to sign Toby Alderweireld after finding a breakthrough in negotiations with Tottenham Hotspur, according to the Mirror.
Jose Mourinho has admitted he’s hoping to sign two more players before the transfer window closes on Thursday evening after being left frustrated by United’s lack of activity so far with Fred the only significant new addition as Lee Grant is a third-choice goalkeeper and Diogo Dalot is a young full-back for the future.
A new central defender is on the agenda as doubts continue over Chris Smalling and Phil Jones while Marcos Rojo and Victor Lindelof are being linked with moves away from Old Trafford and Alderweireld has been touted as a prime target for Manchester United over the past few months.
The Belgian international struggled to secure first team football at Spurs last season as Mauricio Pochettino opted for Davinson Sanchez alongside Jan Vertonghen for much of the campaign amid a contract stand-off with the club.
Alderweireld has refused to sign a new deal at Tottenham so the north Londoners are open to cashing-in before a release clause kicks-in next summer that would allow the defender to leave for just £25m.
Despite his contract situation, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was still determined to get top dollar for the 29-year-old and has reportedly been demanding £75m for Alderweireld’s signature – a price United have refused to meet.
This prompted the Manchester giants to look at alternative targets and they’ve been strongly linked with Leicester City’s Harry Maguire and out-of-favour Barcelona defender Yerry Mina in recent weeks.
However, the Mirror claim there has been a breakthrough in negotiations with Tottenham and Man Utd are now expected to wrap-up a £60m deal to sign Alderweireld over the next 48 hours.

So the Belgian star looks set to become United’s fourth signing of the summer and I think he’ll prove to be an excellent addition to Mourinho’s squad as Alderweireld has been one of the best centre-backs in Europe over the past few years.
