The summer transfer window is drawing to a close and managers are working hard to secure last minute deals so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Leon Bailey confirms interest from Liverpool and Chelsea…
Liverpool and Chelsea are battling to sign Leon Bailey after the £40m-rated Bayer Leverkusen winger confirmed ‘concrete interest’ from the English duo, according to Goal.
Bailey made his name in Belgium during an impressive stint at Genk to earn a move to Leverkusen in January 2017 and the youngster has continued to develop a reputation as one of the most exciting attackers in Europe over the past 18 months.
The 20-year-old provided 12 goals and 6 assists in his 34 appearances last season to help Leverkusen secure a fifth-placed finish in the Bundesliga table which saw them finish behind Borussia Dortmund on goal difference to narrowly miss out on Champions League qualification.
Bailey’s potential has led to speculation he could be on the move this summer with several top European clubs linked and the winger has now confirmed that Liverpool and Chelsea have both shown a ‘concrete interest’ in his services.
The Jamaican-born attacker refused to rule out leaving Leverkusen this summer after saying he’s just concentrating on his football and he’ll let the clubs and his management team discuss any potential transfer.
When asked specifically about interest from Chelsea, Liverpool and Roma Bailey is quoted by Goal as saying:
“There’s concrete interest. What I can say is that my full focus is on developing myself as a young player, and that’s what I’ll focus on. If a club wants me, my management and Bayer 04 will take care of it.”
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming days but the report suggests that it will cost the likes of Liverpool or Chelsea £40m to tempt Leverkusen in to a sale this summer.
Jurgen Klopp could still be in the market for another attacker as he’s yet to properly replace Philippe Coutinho following his January move to Barcelona and the Reds saw a proposed deal for Nabil Fekir collapse earlier in the summer so Bailey could be viewed as an alternative.

Chelsea are expected to be active during the closing stages of the window and they could be eyeing Bailey as a potential replacement for Willian amid speculation he could be on the move before the window shuts.
