Maurizio Sarri has enjoyed an excellent start to life in England as the Blues comfortably beat Huddersfield Town on the opening weekend before beating Arsenal in a five-goal thriller at Stamford Bridge last Saturday.

Another victory tomorrow would make it three wins from three games and provide further proof that Chelsea will be right in the mix for the top four this after missing out on Champions League qualification last season.

However, Newcastle will be keen to register their first victory of the season as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Cardiff last week after losing to Tottenham on the opening weekend of the new campaign.

Team news

Chelsea have been handed a boost as Sarri confirmed at his pre-match press conference that Eden Hazard is now in contention to start after working on his fitness this week but the attacker isn’t ready to complete the full ninety minutes just yet.

Midfielder Mateo Kovacic is also in-line to make his first start since arriving on loan from Real Madrid on deadline day but like Hazard he’s not fit enough to play the whole game.

Newcastle will welcome DeAndre Yedlin back in to the squad after he returned to full training last week following a minor knock but Florian Lejeune remains out with a long-term knee injury.

Newcastle 1-2 Chelsea: The Blues have a poor recent away record at St James’ Park having lost four of their last five trips to the ground but I have a feeling their improve that record tomorrow. Sarri has the Blues playing some lovely football and Newcastle are yet to find their groove this season. It will probably be a tight game but I’m backing Chelsea to edge it.
