Tottenham are set to launch a fresh bid to sign £90m-rated Real Betis attacker Giovani Lo Celso after seeing their opening offer knocked back, according to the Mirror.
Lo Celso has just come off the back of a superb debut campaign in Spain after joining Betis on an initial 12-month loan deal from Paris Saint-Germain last summer having struggled to establish himself during a three-year spell in the French capital.
The attacking midfielder contributed 16 goals and 6 assists in all competitions last season to help Betis secure a 10th-placed finish in the La Liga table while he’s also now a regular fixture in the Argentinean national team set-up.
Unsurprisingly, Betis activated an option to make Lo Celso’s move from PSG permanent for around £20m back in April but they are now facing a battle to keep hold of the South American beyond this summer.
Tottenham have been strongly linked in recent weeks and the Mirror claim the north Londoners are ready to table an improved offer after seeing their opening £53m bid rejected by Betis earlier this month.
The newspaper says the Spanish outfit are demanding the full value of Lo Celso’s £88.9m release clause and they hope a positive showing from the attacker at this summer’s Copa America will attract more interest in order to create a bidding war.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy usually tries to avoid such situations as he’s known to be a shrewd negotiator so no doubt he’ll be pushing to get a deal agreed as soon as possible with Argentina set to kick-off their Copa America campaign against Colombia on Saturday.
Mauricio Pochettino is in the market for another attacking midfielder after Christian Eriksen went public with his desire to seek a new challenge after failing to agree terms over a new contract at White Hart Lane.

It appears Tottenham have identified Lo Celso as the man they want to replace the Danish international and I think he’d be a hugely exciting signing but I don’t see Levy paying £90m so Betis will need to lower their valuation if a deal is to be agreed.
