The midfielder has been one of the highest scoring midfielder’s of his generation and the England international believes when his body can no longer make an impact on the team; he’ll decide to call it a day.
“I have never been a defensive kind of player,” he was quoted as saying on The Sun’s website. “I love getting up and down the pitch and arriving late into the penalty area.
“If I felt I wasn’t getting there, I wouldn’t want to hang around too long. I’ll be the first to know when I’m no longer capable of doing that job. Mind you, I’ll probably have been sold before then!”
The 33-year old is entering his 11th season with the Blues and has scored an impressive 115 goals in 344 Premiership appearances for the club bettering a goal in every three games. Quite an accolade for a midfielder.
