United Eye £25m Striker
By Football Talk.
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has identified Ajax’s prolific 23-year-old striker Luis Suarez as the man to ease the goal-scoring burden on Wayne Rooney next season. After Dimitar Berbatov failed to live up to expectations this season, there is little doubt that United could do with another striker and Suarez is high on Ferguson’s wish-list.
United have already landed 21-year-old Mexican international Juan Hernandez, and Ferguson could be set to raid South America once again for the Uruguayan hitman. United have drawn up a list of strikers and along with Suarez is David Villa and No1 target Karim Benzema. Fergie has made no secret of his admiration for Real Madrid’s Benzema, but he recently stated he was happy at the Bernabeau and wanted to remain in Spain to fight for his place. But since then he has been omitted from the provisional French World Cup squad, so he may have a change of heart and seek a move to secure more first team football and United would be first in the queue.
However, should Benzema stay at Madrid, a move for Suarez could be on the cards. He has scored 74 goals in 97 appearances for Ajax with 49 of those coming this season, so he certainly has a prolific goalscoring record and a bid of around £25m is thought to be enough for Ajax to sell their prize asset.
