Everton In Talks With Man Utd Over Darron Gibson – Sky Sources
Manchester United and Everton are in discussions over the transfer of Darron Gibson, Sky Sports News have confirmed this afternoon, ahead of a £1m transfer.
Manchester United and Everton are in discussions over the transfer of Darron Gibson, Sky Sports News have confirmed this afternoon.
Widespread newspaper reports this morning claimed the Toffee’s were keen on Gibson, and according to Sky Sports News sources, the two clubs are in discussions today with a view to permanent transfer.
The Irish midfielder has failed to establish himself at Old Trafford and was close to a £5m move to Sunderland in the summer. The 24-year-old is out of contract in June and United will now have to accept a reduced fee of between £1m-£2m or risk losing him for nothing in a few months time.
However, Everton have severe financial problems and some have suggested they may even struggle to come up with the relatively low transfer fee Gibson will command.
If Gibson does move on this month it would further reduce the central midfield options available to Sir Alex Ferguson, who has seen the likes of Darren Fletcher, Anderson and Tom Cleverly ruled out for large parts of the season through injury.
Anderson has just returned to action while Paul Scholes has recently returned to Old Trafford until the end of the season, possibly freeing Gibson to move on this January in search of first team football.
