Shakhtar Donetsk have rejected a £16.6m bid from Chelsea for midfielder Willian, according to Sky Sports News.
The Blues have been linked with the Brazilian over the past few days and CEO Sergei Palkin was quoted in the Daily Mail confirming Chelsea’s interest. Palkin is also quoted as saying that while Willian is keen to test himself in the Premier League, they wouldn’t sell unless the players buy-out clause was met (believed to be £29m).
However, Sky Sports News reporter Brian Swanson has now confirmed that he has spoken directly with Shakhtar and they told him they have rejected a £16.6m bid from Chelsea for Willian. Swanson used his Twitter account to break the news this morning, saying:
Sky Sports also report that Sergei Palkin, Shakhtar CEO, had said:
“We have received a bid from Chelsea for Willian valued at €20million, but he is not for sale,”
Willian is an attack-minded midfielder who would add pace and creativity to the Chelsea frontline, so would no doubt be a popular addition with the fans should they Andre Villas-Boas manage to snap him up.
