Chelsea vs Wigan: Team News, Likely Line-ups & Predicted Score
Chelsea welcome relegation strugglers Wigan to Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon. Here’s team news, likely line-ups and predicted score for the big game.
Chelsea welcome relegation strugglers Wigan Athletic to Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon with the home side getting back to Premier League action following their qualification to the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Roberto Di Matteo lead the Blues to a 3-1 aggregate victory over Benfica in midweek and have now booked a semi-final date with Champions and old-foes Barcelona.
Chelsea will be looking to continue their good form and maintain their push for a top-four finish after closing the gap on third-placed Arsenal to five points with a 4-2 win over Aston Villa last weekend.
Wigan find themselves in the bottom three but only on goal difference and go into the game at Stamford Bridge having won their last two league games including an impressive 2-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield.
Team News
Di Matteo has injury worries ahead of the game with three key players unlikely to feature. Captain John Terry was forced off early in the second half against Benfica and has been ruled out with cracked ribs. It’s unclear how long the defender will be out for.
Left back Ashley Cole is also unavailable after picking up an ankle injury in midweek while Frank Lampard is also rated as extremely doubtful with a thigh injury.
Didier Drogba is pushing for a recall but Fernando Torres will be hoping to retain his place after ending his long Premier League goal drought against Villa last week.
Wigan boss Roberto Martinez can welcome back Mohamed Diame after the midfielder missed the last two games with a groin injury. However, striker Hugo Rogallega is out with a knee injury.
Likely Line-ups
Predicted Score
Chelsea are a team-reborn under Roberto Di Matteo but Wigan are also fighting for their manager and have been hugely impressive in their last two games against Liverpool and Stoke. So the Blues should not take the visitors too lightly if they are to collect all three points this Saturday. Despite Wigan proving stubborn opposition, we see Chelsea having too much for them. Chelsea 2-0 Wigan.
