Manchester United have opened official talks with Sao Paulo over their Brazilian wonder-kid Lucas Moura and want to wrap up the signing before the Olympics, according to the Mirror.
The report claims that United have already tabled an offer in excess of £20m for Moura but talks will continue between the two parties with the Red Devils prepared to raise their opening offer to land their No.1 summer transfer target.
Sir Alex Ferguson has told officials at Old Trafford to press ahead with a deal and the Scot will splash a large portion of his summer transfer budget on the 19-year-old, with the Glazers said to be prepared to fund the move because of Moura’s potential sell-on-value.
Fergie has been tracking the starlet for some time but has stepped up his interest in recent days as he continues to re-shape his squad ahead of the new season, when he plans to wrestle the Premier League title back from rivals City.
United are eager to seal the deal soon before Lucas goes off to play at the Olympics with Brazil in two weeks time, where a positive showing would push his value even higher. However, Sao Paulo are aware of this and rate their star player at £32m, a fee they rejected last season from Chelsea.
The player himself has refused to rule out a move this summer, insisting he will do whats best for him and his family.
“I cannot guarantee that I will stay until the end of my contract. Much has changed and the situation is not up to me anymore.
“I don’t have a crazy desire to leave but when the time comes I will speak with my family and decide what is best for my future.
“I’m very calm and down to earth about it. My job is to play football so that these clubs continue to be interested.”
Moura is quoted as saying by the Mirror.
