United Set To Open Talks Over £10m Baines Move
Manchester United are set to launch a £10m bid for Everton left back Leighton Baines, but the Toffees are holding out for a fee nearer £15m for the England man
With the summer transfer window in full swing, Football Talk will be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news throughout the summer. Today, Man Utd are linked with a £10m move for Leighton Baines.
Manchester United are set to launch a £10m bid for Everton left back Leighton Baines, according to the Daily Mail.
The report claims that United will make look to open talks with Everton either during the coming week or they may decide to wait until chief executive David Gill returns from his holiday in America so he can lead the negotiations.
Everton are believed to be willing to do business at around £15m but United are reluctant to go that high, with Sir Alex Ferguson thought to be confident of landing the 27-year-old for nearer £10m due to the Toffees financial woes.
Baines still has three years to run on his current contract and has been the clubs most consistent performer in recent seasons, so Everton manager David Moyes is keen to hang on to him but understands a sizeable offer may be too good to turn down.
Fergie is desperate to add another left back to his squad this summer. Patrice Evra had a worrying dip in form last season, and with Fabio Da Silva joining QPR on loan and Ezekiel Fryers expected to complete a move to Tottenham, the Scot has limited options on the left side of his defence.

Baines would pose a genuine threat to Evra’s first team place and should the England man move to United, it would be only the second time in 15 years that Fergie has paid a transfer fee to sign a player aged over 26.
