European champions Chelsea have had a £26m offer for attacker Willian rejected by Shakhtar Donetsk.
The Blues have been tracking the Brazilian international for months and were linked with the player back in January, but Goal.com claim they have made their move to sign the talented forward this summer.
Shakhtar Donetsk coach Mircea Lucescu has confirmed the club have received a €34m (£26m) offer from Chelsea for Willian, but insist that bid doesn’t meet the clubs valuation of the player.
The Ukrainian’s are willing to let their star man leave this summer, but only if their asking price is met with Lucescu claiming Willian is better than new Chelsea man Eden Hazard.
“I told Willian he can leave, but only if the right offer is made. He’s a great player.
“Willian was the biggest investment Shakhtar have made in a young player, we have to respect that. He played only seven or eight games in Brazil.”
“They paid a lot of money for Hazard but are not willing to pay for Willian, even though he’s better in my opinion.
“Chelsea want to buy Brazilian but made an offer for the eastern European market. They offered €34m but we don’t think that’s his current value.”
Lucescu is quoted as saying by Goal.com
The 23-year-old can play on either wing and has been a huge hit with Shakhtar since making the move from Brazilian side Corinthians in 2007, making 126 appearances for the Miners so far.
His impressive form has seen him break into the Brazilian national team set up and it now seems it could earn him a big money move to England, but only if Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is willing to pay Shakhtar’s asking price.
