Manchester United are lining up a £20 million move for Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye this summer, according to the Mirror.
The report claims United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has identified the French ace as a prime target as he looks for Paul Scholes’ successor at Old Trafford.
Cabaye has been a huge success since joining Newcastle from French club Lille in 2011 and has emerged as one of the most consistent central midfielders in the Premier League.
The newspaper suggests Ferguson sent his brother and trusted scout Martin Ferguson to St James’ Park last Thursday to watch the 27-year-old in action in Newcastle’s Europa League quarter final clash with Benfica, with the champions-elect understood to be preparing a £20 million offer at the end of the season.
The Express also claim that United’s representative was keeping a close eye on Benfica defender Ezequiel Garay and midfielder Nicolas Gaitan, who’ve both been reported as long-term targets for the club.
