Tottenham Eye £15m Real Madrid Raid
Tottenham will move for £15m-rated Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao this summer to replace Benoit Assou-Ekotto if the club qualifies for the Champions League
Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Tottenham eye Fabio Coentrao.
Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Villas-Boas will move for £15m-rated Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao this summer to replace Benoit Assou-Ekotto if the club finishes in the top four, according to the Mirror.
The report claims that Assou-Ekotto is on the verge of agreeing a deal to join mega-rich Monaco at the end of the season, providing the Ligue 1 outfit can settle a tax row with the French courts, with AVB seemingly unconvinced by the Cameroon international.
Villas-Boas next move is likely to depend on Spurs finishing in the top-four with the Mirror suggesting the north Londoners will try to sign out-of-favour Real Madrid full-back Coentrao is they qualify for the Champions League, with the La Liga giants understood to be willing to sell the Portuguese international for around £15m.
However, should Tottenham fail to make the top-four this season the newspaper claims AVB will have to ditch the move for Coentrao and on-loan defender Danny Rose is expected to be installed as first choice left-back next year.
Either way, it seems that Assou-Ekotto will be on the way out of White Hart Lane this summer with a move to Claudio Ranieri’s Monaco on the cards.
