Lampard Set For Chelsea Stay Thanks To Mourinho’s Intervention
Frank Lampard is set to be offered a new contract at Chelsea after manager-in-waiting Jose Mourinho persuaded Roman Abramovich to keep hold of the midfielder.
With the summer transfer window set to re-open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Frank Lampard is set to stay at Chelsea thanks to Jose Mourinho.
Frank Lampard is set to stay at Chelsea after manager-in-waiting Jose Mourinho persuaded Roman Abramovich to keep hold of the record-breaking midfielder, according to the Daily Star.
Lampard is out of contract in just a few weeks time and looked set to end his 12-year career at Stamford Bridge with the club seemingly unwilling to offer the 34-year-old an extension.
However, the Star claim that Jose Mourinho – who’s tipped to make a sensational return to west London this summer – has persuaded owner Abramovich to keep hold of the goal-scoring midfielder and offer him a new one-year deal similar to the one Ashley Cole signed earlier in the season.
Lampard netted twice in a 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Saturday to not only ensure the Blues qualified for the Champions League next term, but he also broke Bobby Tambling’s goal-scoring record – taking his personal tally to 203 goals.
The Chelsea fans have been desperate for Lamps to stay on and the player has made no secret of his desire to finish his career at the Bridge, and it looks like it could be a happy ending for all concerned.
The report claims Chelsea had hoped to get the deal done in time to announce it before Wednesday nights Europa League final against Benfica, but Lampard’s agent Steve Kutner is understood to be trying to squeeze the best possible deal out of the club before signing on the dotted line, so an announcement may not be made for a few days yet.
