Man Utd Tipped To Make £15m Bid For Croatian International
Manchester United will make a £15million move for a highly-rated Croatian international this summer. Find out more including who the player in question is here.
The January transfer window may have slammed shut but clubs will still be working hard behind the scenes at identifying targets for the summer, so we’ll bring you all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Man Utd are tipped to bid for Dejan Lovren.
Manchester United will make a £15m bid for Southampton defender Dejan Lovren at the end of the season, according to the Metro.
The 24-year-old has settled in to life in England very well following an £8.5m move from Lyon last summer, and has been a key member of the Saints side that’s enjoyed an excellent season in the Premier League.
It appears Lovren’s impressive form at the back hasn’t gone unnoticed with the Metro claiming that Manchester United boss David Moyes is a huge fan and has asked club officials to try and strike a deal for the player.
Understandably, Southampton are desperate to hang on to the centre-back but the newspaper suggests that the defending champions will test the South Coast clubs resolve with a £15m offer this summer.
Moyes has endured a difficult first season in charge at Old Trafford with the club currently languishing down in seventh place and on course to missing out on a top four finish.
However, the Scot is likely to be given time to rebuild the squad he inherited from Sir Alex Ferguson and a centre-back is almost certainly going to be on the cards now that Nemanja Vidic is off to Inter Milan when his contract expires in June. There are also doubts over the future of Rio Ferdinand so at least one central defender should be on the agenda and it seems Moyes has set his sights on Lovren.
The Croatian international is an attractive option as he’s approaching his peak years and now has experience of the Premier League. It remains to be seen how Southampton will react if United do follow up their interest with a £15m offer, but they might be tempted to make a quick profit on the player and use the funds to strengthen the squad elsewhere.

Should Lovren make the move to United this summer, he’ll have to battle it out with Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones for a starting spot, so he may want guarantees over how much first team football he’ll see before committing to a move to Old Trafford.
