Liverpool edged into the fourth round of the FA Cup after a narrow 2-1 victory over AFC Wimbledon at Kingsmeadow this evening with Steven Gerrard bagging both goals.
The Reds opened the scoring early on when Gerrard met Javier Manquillo’s excellent cross from the right to head home in the twelfth minute.
AFC Wimbledon then levelled things up just before half-time when Ade Akinfenwa bundled the ball home from close range after Simon Mignolet had flapped at a corner.
However, Liverpool won in midway through the second half and it was that man Gerrard who got the goal, with the skipper curling home a superb free-kick in the 62nd minute to make it 2-1.
AFC Wimbledon pushed for another goal to force a replay but the visitors held on to book a date with Bolton in the fourth round.
