Chelsea have been hit by a major injury blow with Eden Hazard set to miss this weekend’s season finale with West Brom after having his wisdom teeth removed
Chelsea have been hit by a major injury blow with Eden Hazard set to miss this weekend’s season finale with Sunderland after having his wisdom teeth removed, according to reports.
Hazard has enjoyed a stunning season with the newly-crowned Premier League champions with his displays leading to him being named the PFA Player of the Year.
The 24-year-old was also announced as the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year last week and he was due to collect his latest award in person at the awards ceremony this evening.
However, a statement on the FWA’s Twitter account confirmed that Hazard is no longer able to attend the event after undergoing emergency surgery to remove three wisdom teeth, and the injury is set to see him miss Sunday’s season climax again Sunderland.
The statement said:
“Footballer of the Year Eden Hazard has had emergency dental surgery and will be unable to collect his award in person tonight.
“Hazard tried to delay the surgery but had to have three wisdom teeth removed on Wednesday and is still in considerable pain.
“He is deeply sorry to miss the awards dinner and hopes to be at Stamford Bridge on Sunday when the FWA will hand over the trophy.
“Previous winner Gianfranco Zola will pay tribute to Hazard and Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck will deliver a message from the player.
“Hazard will almost certainly miss Chelsea’s final game against Sunderland – the first Premier League game he will have missed this season”.
The Express also claim that Hazard will be ruled out of the Sunderland game so it looks like the Belgian international will miss his first league match of the season having started in each of the previous 37 games.
It will come as a blow to Jose Mourinho as Hazard has been one of his most consistent performers, scoring 20 goals and providing 10 assists in all competitions this season.
The good news is that Chelsea have already wrapped-up the title but I’m sure Mourinho and the players will still want to end the campaign on a high note before they are officially presented with their league trophy and winners medals.
