Tottenham Team News: Pochettino Confirms Key Duo Could Be Fit For Arsenal Clash
Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that two of his key players could be back in contention to face Arsenal but will miss the game against Leicester
Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to maintain their unbeaten record in the Premier League when they take on Leicester at White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon.
Ahead of the game, Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s offered a team news and injury update.
Unfortunately the Spurs coach confirmed that Toby Alderweireld and Harry Kane remain unavailable for selection for the visit of the defending Premier League champions this weekend.
Kane has been on the sidelines with an ankle ligament injury that he sustained during the 1-0 victory over Sunderland in mid-September and has kept him out for the last eight games in all competitions.
Alderweireld on the other hand has missed the last three matches after being stretchered off against West Bromwich Albion two weeks ago having suffering a knee injury.
Both Kane and Alderweireld are back in training and working on their fitness but Pochettino says tomorrow’s clash with Leicester at White Hart Lane will still come too soon for the duo.
However, he hopes they could be in contention for next week’s Champions League encounter with Bayer Leverkusen or the subsequent north London derby showdown against Arsenal at the Emirates next Sunday.
When asked for an update on the pair, Pochettino is quoted as saying by TottenhamHotspur.com:
“They are making good progress in their recovery but they are still out,”
“Next week? Maybe, we’ll see. We’re very positive and they are very close, so maybe Wednesday or Sunday, but we’ll see.”
It would be a huge boost for Spurs to have Kane and Alderweireld available for the north London derby as with Arsenal and Tottenham battling it out at the top of the table, next weekend’s clash at the Emirates could have a major say in where the title ends up this season.
