Manchester United will be looking to book their place in the quarter finals of the Europa League when they take on FC Rostov at Old Trafford this evening.

United came away with a very useful 1-1 draw from the first leg in Russia last week which puts them firmly in the driving seat to progress to the last eight of the competition.

Jose Mourinho’s side were knocked out of the FA Cup on Monday night following a feisty 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge so the United boss will be keen to put that loss behind them and get back to winning ways this evening.

No doubt Mourinho will be taking the Europa League seriously as it offers a second chance to qualify for the Champions League next season if they go on to win the competition.

United currently sit sixth in the Premier League – six points adrift of fourth-placed Liverpool – so Mourinho will be looking to the Europa League as a possible route in to the Champions League if they miss out on the top four.

Team News

Wayne Rooney has been ruled out of the game after failing to recover from a knee injury which he picked up following a training ground collision with Phil Jones last week.

Anthony Martial returned to light training yesterday but Mourinho has already confirmed that the French international won’t be ready to face Rostov this evening.

However, Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be back in the squad as his suspension doesn’t apply in Europe so the Swede should replace Marcus Rashford up front despite the youngsters excellent display last time out.

Ander Herrera is expected to start as he’ll be suspended for Sunday’s trip to Middlesbrough after being sent off against Chelsea while Eric Bailly is back in contention after missing the first leg through suspension.

Mourinho is expected to freshen things up with the likes of Sergio Romero, Daley Blind, Michael Carrick and Juan Mata pushing for recalls.
