Liverpool will look to cement their position in the top four when they take on Everton at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds were in decent form before the international break with a solid 1-1 draw against Manchester City at the Etihad following-on from wins over Burnley and Arsenal.

Those results have left the Merseysiders sitting fourth in the Premier League table but with Manchester United just four points behind with two games in hand Jurgen Klopp knows his side need a win tomorrow to maintain their advantage.

However, Everton make the short trip across Liverpool in good form themselves having won three of their last four games to move themselves in to Champions League qualification contention.

Another win tomorrow would move Ronald Koeman’s side to within just three points of Liverpool so it’s all to play for at Anfield on Saturday lunchtime.

Team News

Liverpool have been handed a major injury blow with Adam Lallana ruled out for four weeks after suffering a thigh injury while on international duty with England last week.

Jordan Henderson has also suffered a set-back in his recovery from a foot injury so isn’t in contention tomorrow meaning Lucas Leiva could get a rare run out in midfield.

Daniel Sturridge is still working his way back to full fitness following a hip injury so he won’t be involved this weekend but Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho are available for selection after making a swift trip back from South America following their exploits with Brazil.

Everton come in to the match nursing something of an injury crisis with Seamus Coleman the latest victim after suffering a horrific leg break during Ireland’s game with Wales last week.

Ramiro Funes Mori also picked up a serious injury playing for Argentina so his season appears to be over while James McCarthy, Morgan Schneiderlin, Muhamed Besic and Yannick Bolasie are also out.

Liverpool 2-1 Everton: Liverpool have an excellent record against the Toffees having not lost a Merseyside derby at Anfield in 18 years and I don’t see that record ending this weekend. Everton are certain to miss their injured players so I’m backing Liverpool to secure a hard fought 2-1 win.
