Man Utd In Battle To Sign £50m South American Star
Manchester United are facing a battle to sign Fred as the £50m-rated midfielder favours a switch to rivals Manchester City this summer
The January transfer window in now closed so it’s time to look at those deals that didn’t get over the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, the latest on Fred’s future…
Manchester United are facing a battle to sign Fred as the £50m-rated midfielder favours a switch to rivals Manchester City this summer, according to a report by TeamTalk.
Fred joined Shakhtar from Internacional in 2013 and he’s proven to be a superb signing for the Ukrainian giants while he’s also broken in to the Brazilian national team having been capped by his country 6 times so far.
The 24-year-old has been virtually ever-present for Shakhtar this season having featured 24 times across all competitions and he’s provided 2 goals and 4 assists from midfield.
Fred’s impressive performances have attracted interest from the Premier League with TeamTalk claiming that United and City have been showing a keen interest in luring him to England.
Jose Mourinho is expected to be in the market for at least one midfielder this summer as Michael Carrick is retiring and Marouane Fellaini is being tipped to leave after failing to sign a new contract.
Fred is seemingly on Mourinho’s radar, however, City are also tracking the South American as Pep Guardiola looks to sign a long-term replacement for Fernandinho.
And it looks like United face a fight to get their man as TeamTalk are citing a report from the Daily Star that claims City are leading the race to secure a £50m deal at the end of the season.
The newspaper says Fred has given Guardiola his word he will snub any approach from Mourinho and United in order to join City this summer so it looks like the Etihad club are firmly in pole position.

We’ll have to wait and see if things change over the coming months but as much as Fred would be another excellent addition to the City squad if they do end up getting a deal done this summer, I wouldn’t discount United from the running just yet.
