Manchester United are ready to fend off interest from Arsenal and Manchester City to sign £50m-rated Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred this summer
The transfer window may be closed but managers are working hard on their plans for the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Fred’s future…
Manchester United are ready to fend off interest from Arsenal and Manchester City to sign £50m-rated Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred this summer, according to the Mirror.
Fred has been a key player for Shakhtar since joining the club from Internacional in 2013 and he’s also broken in to the Brazilian national team having been capped by his country 6 times so far.
The 25-year-old’s impressive form has caught the attention of clubs here in the Premier League with the Mirror claiming that Arsenal, United and City are all showing a keen interest ahead of the summer.
Arsenal are expected to be in the market for midfield reinforcements as Jack Wilshere’s contract is up in June while Aaron Ramsey is also yet to agree a new deal and Fred is seemingly on Arsene Wenger’s radar.
The Gunners also have close connections with Fred’s agent Gilberto Silva – who was a key part of the Invincibles team – and the former midfielder has confirmed his client wants to play in England next season.
City are also expected to sign a new midfielder this summer and Pep Guardiola is ready to renew his interest in Fred having made an approach for the South American star in January.
However, it seems United could be in pole position as the Mirror claims that Arsenal and City are unlikely to meet Shakhtar’s £50m valuation – which hasn’t put off the Red Devils.
Jose Mourinho is in the market for at least one central midfielder as Michael Carrick is set to retire while Marouane Fellaini is out of contract in June and is yet to sign an extension.
The newspaper says Mourinho has stepped-up his interest in Fred and United are now making strong attempts to lure the Brazilian international to Old Trafford this summer.
