Liverpool Team News: Klopp Confirms Double Injury Boost Ahead Of Real Madrid Clash
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed a double injury boost ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League final against Real Madrid this weekend.
Liverpool face their date with destiny when they take on Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev on Saturday evening.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has been speaking to the clubs official website ahead of the game and he’s provided a team news and injury update.
Klopp was pleased to confirm a huge double boost with the news that Emre Can and James Milner have been passed fit to face the defending European champions this weekend.
Milner missed Liverpool’s final Premier League game against Brighton earlier this month due to a minor muscle issue but the midfielder is back in full training and is in contention to face Madrid.
Can on the other hand hasn’t featured for Liverpool since aggravating a niggling back injury during the Merseysiders league game against Watford at Anfield back on March 17th.
The German international wasn’t initially expected to recover in time for the Champions League final but he was able to join his team mates on Liverpool’s warm-weather training camp in Marbella last week.
The midfielder has continued to make steady progress as he took part in full training sessions when the club returned to Melwood earlier this week and he was included in the 24-man squad that flew-out to Kiev this afternoon.
Speaking on board that flight, Klopp confirmed that it’s a welcome surprise to have Can back in contention and he could now be named in the 18-man match-day squad to face Madrid on Saturday night.
Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com:
“Millie was clear [he would be fit] and Emre is a surprise.
“He told me he would come back, try this and that and then we would talk to people. We thought it would be difficult, but he came back and from the first day it was like, ‘OK, that looks good, how do you feel?’ ‘Very good’ and then the next day ‘very good’ again.
“Now he trains completely normal. He’s a nice option and that’s why he is with us.”
Can and Milner’s availability means Klopp now has a big decision to make in midfield as Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana are also competing for three central roles this weekend.
