The summer transfer window is now open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Jean-Michael Seri…
Chelsea have a free run at the signing of Jean-Michael Seri this summer after Arsenal ended their interest in the £30.7m-rated Nice midfielder, according to a report by TeamTalk.
Seri has developed in to one of the best all-round midfielders in French football since joining Nice from Pacos de Ferreira in 2015 while he’s also now a regular with the Ivory Coast national team.
The 26-year-old’s impressive displays attracted interest in a whole host of top clubs with TeamTalk saying that Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United were all initially chasing his signature.
Liverpool and United have since signed alternative midfielders which left Arsenal and Chelsea to battle it out over Seri’s signing but it seems the Blues have now emerged as the front runners.
TeamTalk are citing a report from the Evening Standard that claims Arsenal have withdrawn their interest in Seri meaning Chelsea have a free run to land the player if they meet his £30.7m release clause.
The newspaper says Arsenal boss Unai Emery has drawn-up a list of alternative targets including Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi – who worked under Emery during his time in Spain.
The 6ft 5in French international has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates over the past week after starring for Sevilla in recent years and it seems Emery is hoping for a reunion in north London.
However, Arsenal are keeping their options open as the report says the Gunners are also eyeing Udinese star Jakub Jankto, Kerem Demirbay of Hoffenheim and Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini as well as N’Zonzi.
