Liverpool In Talks To Sign World Class Star, Deal Will Cost Over £80m
Liverpool have opened talks over the signing of Jan Oblak but have been told by Atletico Madrid a deal will cost in excess of £80m
The summer transfer window is now open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool have made an enquiry to sign Jan Oblak….
Liverpool have opened talks over the signing of Jan Oblak but have been told by Atletico Madrid a deal will cost in excess of £80m, according to the Mirror.
Jurgen Klopp is in the market for a new number one to replace Loris Karius after the young German made two costly errors during the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.
The Mirror claim that Liverpool chiefs have identified Oblak as their first choice target and have now made contact with Atletico to discuss a potential deal this summer.
The 25-year-old has developed in to one of the best goalkeepers in the world since joining Atletico from Benfica in 2014 and he kept an incredible 22 clean sheets in his 37 La Liga appearances last season.
Oblak conceded just 22 goals in the league to help Diego Simeone’s side finish second behind champions Barcelona while he also played a key role in helping them win the Europa League.
There is no doubt the Slovenian international would be a sensational signing for Liverpool if they could lure him to Anfield but a deal is going to be extremely difficult to pull off.
Oblak still has three more years left to run on his contract at the Wanda Metropolitano and the Mirror claims Atletico have informed Liverpool any deal will cost them in excess of £80m with the Spaniard’s demanding close to his £88m release clause.
The newspaper says Liverpool will refuse to pay that kind of money as it would double the current world record fee for a goalkeeper so Klopp is being forced to look at alternative targets.
The Reds have been linked with Alisson Becker but AS Roma are proving difficult to deal with as they’re demanding a huge fee after being criticised for selling Mohamed Salah too cheaply last summer.

It means Liverpool face a tough battle to land their top two goalkeeping targets so Klopp is going to have to compromise and lower his expectations if he’s to sign a new number one over the coming months.
