The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, the race to sign Jerome Boateng hots-up…
Manchester United face a battle with Manchester City over the signing of want-away Bayern Munich centre-back Jerome Boateng this summer, according to a report in the Mirror.
Boateng has been one of the best centre-backs in world football since joining Bayern in 2011 following a disappointing season at City and he’s won a whole host of honours including 6 Bundesliga titles, 4 domestic cups and the Champions League during his time in Germany.
However, the 29-year-old’s future at the Allianz Arena is in serious doubt as he’s been strongly linked with a move this summer in search of a fresh start and Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed earlier this month they are ready to cash-in if a suitable offer arrives.
The situation has alerted Manchester United as reports in Germany via TeamTalk last week suggested that Jose Mourinho has made Boateng a key transfer target and Bayern have made it clear they are prepared to do business at £52.7m.
Mourinho is in the market for another top class centre-back as Victor Lindelof has struggled to make an impact since arriving from Benfica 12 months ago and United need to find a suitable partner for Eric Bailly in the middle of the back four.
Boateng would be an excellent addition to the Red Devils’ squad if they could lure him to Old Trafford, however, the Mirror claim United will face stiff competition for his signature from Manchester City.
It remains to be seen whether Boateng would be prepared to move back to City following his frustrating short spell at the club in 2010 but he may be tempted by the prospect of working under Pep Guardiola again having played under him at Bayern.

We’ll have to wait and see how things progress over the coming weeks but any potential deal will have to wait until after the World Cup finals as Boateng is currently representing Germany in Russia.
