Liverpool Transfer News: Midfielder To Undergo Medical, Klopp After Italian Star

The latest Liverpool transfer news including a midfielder set to undergo his medical while Jurgen Klopp is keen on an Italian midfielder

The summer transfer window is in full swing and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool midfielder Pedro Chirivella will have a medical at Rosenborg while Jurgen Klopp is keen on Nicolo Barella…

Chirivella on the move

First up and the Liverpool Echo claim Liverpool midfielder Pedro Chirivella is due to undergo a medical over the coming days after Rosenborg’s £3.5m offer was accepted.

The 21-year-old joined the Reds from Valencia in 2013 after coming through their youth system but has struggled to make an impact at Anfield having made just 5 first team appearances over the last five years.

The Spanish U17 international played during Liverpool’s International Champions Cup victory over Manchester United in Michigan at the weekend but that looks like it will be his final appearance in a Liverpool shirt.

The Liverpool Echo claim the Mersysiders have accepted an offer from Rosenborg that will see them receive £2.4m up front with the fee potentially rising to £3.5m including various add-ons.

Former Liverpool full-back Stig Inge Bjornebye is the sporting director at Rosenborg and it seems he’s raided the club to snap-up the highly-rated midfielder this summer.

The report says Chirivella is now due to travel to Norway to undergo his medical and finalise the move over the coming days but Liverpool have included a buyback option in the deal that can activated for the next three years.

Reds eye Barella

Next up and according Italian journalist Francesco Velluzzi via the Express, Liverpool are among the clubs showing a keen interest in signing Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella this summer.

Jurgen Klopp has already splashed out big money on two new midfielders with Fabinho and Naby Keita arriving in recent weeks but it seems the Liverpool boss is still hoping to further strengthen his options.

Emre Can has joined Juventus, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is expected to miss the entire 2018/19 season through injury, James Milner is coming towards the end of his career while Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana have been plagued by injury problems so another midfielder could be on the agenda.

Barella has emerged as a potential target with Velluzzi – who works for La Gazzetta dello Sport – claiming that Liverpool are interested in signing the Cagliari star but will face competition from the likes of Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, Lyon and Roma.

Velluzzi is quoted by the Express as saying:

“[Cagliari] has understood that it may be the right year to sell him. He was very professional, even if he has not opened his mouth so far, it means that he wants to understand how the situation will be defined.

“Inter [Milan] currently does not have an urgent need to try to buy Barella, unless they sell [Matias] Vecino. There is also Roma at stake, there are also Lyon, Liverpool and perhaps Atletico Madrid.”

Barella became a regular at Cagliari last season after coming through their youth ranks and has represented Italy at every youth level from U15 through to U21 so he certainly looks to have a bright future ahead of him.
