Man Utd vs Newcastle Preview | Latest Team News | Expected Line-Ups | Prediction
Man Utd take on Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Saturday evening. Here is a preview with the latest team news, line-ups and prediction
Manchester United will be desperate to get their season back on track following a turbulent week when they take on Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.
The Red Devils have endured a disappointing campaign so far and their season is under threat of unravelling as they’ve taken just one point from their last two Premier League games against Wolves and West Ham while they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup to Derby County late last month.
The pressure further increased on Jose Mourinho following a dire 0-0 home draw with Valencia in the Champions League on Tuesday night so United are bidding to avoid going five matches without a win for just the second time since 1999.
Worryingly, United haven’t won at Old Trafford since the opening day of the season but they will be confident of improving that record against a Newcastle side that sit joint bottom of the table on just 2 points.
Rafa Benitez’s men have had a nightmare start to the new season with last weekend’s 2-0 defeat to Leicester City at St James’ Park meaning they remain winless in their opening seven league games so they’ll be desperate to secure a positive result tomorrow.
Team news
United have no fresh injury concerns to worry about but Jesse Lingard remains out with a groin injury while Ander Herrera is also on the sidelines along with Marcos Rojo.
However, Ashley Young is expected to be back in contention after recovering from a minor knock that kept him out of the Valencia game while the likes of Anthony Martial, Fred and Victor Lindelof are pushing for recalls.
Newcastle will hand a late fitness test to Paul Dummett after he missed the defeat to Leicester with a hamstring injury while Pederico Fernandez is also a doubt with a knock.
The visitors are certain to be without Salomon Rondon as he’s still recovering from a thigh injury and Florian Lejeune is on the sidelines with a long term knee ligament injury.
Expected Line-Ups
Predicted Score
Man Utd 1-0 Newcastle United: The Reds are playing like they are waiting for Mourinho to be sacked and there is no desire among the majority of the squad right now. However, United have lost just one of their last 36 home matches to Newcastle and the Geordies are really struggling this season so I think the hosts will just do enough to secure the three points. Romelu Lukaku is in a slump right now but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him bag the winner tomorrow.
