‘All Over The Place’ – Paul Merson Predicts Score For Man Utd vs Everton

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has provided his prediction for Manchester United’s Premier League game with Everton at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

United have endured a difficult campaign so far as they currently sit 10th in the table – seven points off the top four – after losing three of their nine games so far and conceded a 96th minute goal to drop two valuable points against Chelsea last weekend.

The Manchester giants were then dominated by Juventus in their Champions League group stage game in midweek with the Serie A champions running out deserved 1-0 winner at Old Trafford so Jose Mourinho will be desperate for a more positive performance tomorrow.

Everton head in to the game sitting one point above United in eighth position in the Premier League table after a steady start to their season so boss Marco Silva will be hoping to climb up to sixth and pile the misery on Mourinho by taking all three points on Sunday.

Merson is expecting a close game at Old Trafford and he claims United are ‘all over the place’ right now but the former Arsenal attacker is predicting the hosts to just do enough to edge it 2-1 tomorrow.

Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Merson said:

Manchester United v Everton

United are all over the place at the moment, but I do see them winning this one. I think the shackles have got to come off at some point.

Against Juventus, I sat down to watch it thinking ‘here we go – they will get into them, squeeze them up the pitch’ but they ended up playing like it was a testimonial game. You watch the other ‘top six’ teams and there’s a plan there. You can see a pattern to their play and how they have scored a goal. When United score, it’s like someone has fallen over the ball and it’s gone in. It’s just happened – you do not watch it and think ‘they’ve worked on that’. It’s all off the cuff with United.

Everton will cause them problems, but surely United can edge it. It’s Manchester United. However, if they somehow make the top four then they would have pulled up trees this season.

United fans will be hoping Merson’s prediction proves accurate as anything other than a win tomorrow would see them fall further off the pace and leave Mourinho’s men facing an uphill battle to finish in the top four this season.
