Manchester United will be desperate for a win to close in on the top four when they take on Southampton at St Mary’s on Saturday evening. Here is the line-up I think Jose Mourinho will go with:
Goalkeeper: David De Gea proved once again that he’s one of the best goalkeepers in the world with another stunning save during the win over Young Boys in midweek and he’ll obviously start between the sticks tomorrow evening. Sergio Romero will hope to keep his place on the bench ahead of Lee Grant.
Defence: Mourinho has confirmed that Diogo Dalot will make his Premier League debut after returning to full fitness and the 19-year-old will therefore replace Antonio Valencia at right-back this weekend.
Victor Lindelof is facing a spell on the sidelines after suffering a muscle injury last weekend so Phil Jones will hope to keep his place alongside Chris Smalling having been given the nod ahead of Eric Bailly on Tuesday night.
Luke Shaw is available again in the Premier League after missing the 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace last weekend due to suspension so Ashley Young may have to make-do with a place on the bench but Matteo Darmian is set to miss out with a minor injury.
Midfield: Mourinho dropped Paul Pogba for the Champions League game in midweek but I expect the French international to be recalled as United missed his presence in the middle of the park against Young Boys.
Nemanja Matic is a firm favourite under Mourinho so he’s expected to retain his place while Marouane Fellaini proved his worth with a vital late winner against Young Boys. Mourinho praised the Belgian international after the game so I think we’ll see Fellaini keeping his place for this tricky away game meaning Fred may be the man to make way for Pogba.
Attack: Romelu Lukaku was dropped in midweek but Marcus Rashford failed to grasp his opportunity with the England international missing a golden chance against Young Boys. Lukaku is in the middle of a long goal drought but I still think Mourinho will recall the Belgian hitman tomorrow with Rashford making way.
United have been dealt a blow with the news that Alexis Sanchez is facing around six weeks on the sidelines after tearing his hamstring in training on Thursday so Anthony Martial is likely to keep his place in attack at Southampton.
Jesse Lingard wasn’t at his best in midweek so Juan Mata could be recalled on the right if Mourinho wants to freshen things up further.
Here is how we think United will line-up:
