Tottenham will be looking to boost their top four hopes with a positive result when they take on Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday afternoon. Here is the side we think Mauricio Pochettino will select for the game:
Goalkeeper: Hugo Lloris is certain to keep his place in goal as the Frenchman has been Pochettino’s first choice goalkeeper for several years so Paulo Gazzaniga will have to make-do with a place on the bench once again.
Defence: Tottenham are being tipped to deploy a back four which means Toby Alderweireld should come in to partner Jan Vertonghen having missed the defeat at Southampton last time out. Davinson Sanchez will be the man to miss out as he’ll make way against Liverpool.
Serge Aurier has been ruled out with a hamstring injury that he picked up while away with the Ivory Coast squad during the international break so Kieran Trippier should start at right-back while Danny Rose could be preferred to Ben Davies on the opposite flank.
Midfield: Tottenham have been handed a double injury blow in midfield with Eric Dier and Harry Winks both ruled out. Dier suffered a hip injury while playing for England against the Czech Republic last week and is facing up to two weeks on the sidelines.
Winks missed both of England’s Euro 2020 qualifiers due to an on-going groin injury that’s hampered him this month and he’s still not fully fit so Victor Wanyama could be recalled to start against Liverpool on Sunday.
Tottenham may go with three in midfield to combat the hosts attack so Christian Eriksen could be deployed in a slightly deeper role alongside Moussa Sissoko – who’s expected to keep his place after becoming a real favourite under Pochettino this season.
Attack: Dele Alli returned from a hamstring injury earlier this month and built on his fitness while away with England during the international break so he should start in attack against Liverpool this weekend.
Obviously Harry Kane will lead the line for Tottenham once again and the England hitman should be joined by Heung-min Son with the South Korean set to be recalled to the Spurs eleven after being named on the bench against Southampton.
That means Lucas Moura is expected to drop to the bench where he’ll be joined by the likes of Erik Lamela and Fernando Llorente.
Here is how I expect Spurs to line-up:
