Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal join Man Utd in the race to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma….
Arsenal are eyeing a shock move to sign AC Milan star Gianluigi Donnarumma after Unai Emery identified the Man Utd target as a potential replacement for Petr Cech, according to reports in Italy via TeamTalk.
The Gunners are expected to be in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer as Cech is due to retire after tomorrow night’s Europa League final following a glittering career and it seems Emery has lined-up Donnarumma as a surprise target.
The 20-year-old is considered to be one of the hottest young talents in world football after establishing himself as a regular at AC Milan having progressed through their youth ranks and he’s already made 141 appearances for the San Siro giants.
Donnarumma is reportedly settled in Milan and is under contract until 2021, however, the report claims the Serie A outfit may be forced to cash-in on the young stopper in order to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations after missing out on Champions League qualification this season.
The situation has seemingly alerted Manchester United as CalcioMercato reported last week that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified Donnarumma as the man to replace David De Gea if he leaves Old Trafford this summer.
De Gea has just one year remaining on his contract and has snubbed United’s latest offer of an extension amid speculation he could join Paris Saint-Germain so Solskjaer has reportedly lined-up Donnarumma as a replacement if the Manchester giants are forced to cash-in on their No.1.
However, United may face competition as TeamTalk are citing a report from Tuttomercatoweb that claims Arsenal have joined the race to sign Donnarumma as Emery weighs-up a shock swoop for the Italian international.
Emery will be working on a tight budget this summer and he’s expected to be extremely active in the market so it would be a huge surprise if Arsenal were to spend big on another established goalkeeper like Donnarumma.
TuttoMercatoWeb, via TeamTalk, suggest that AC Milan will demand around £62m for his signature and I’d be flabbergasted if Arsenal were in a position to pay that kind of money for the young goalkeeper.

Therefore, I don’t see anything coming of these rumours linking Donnarumma with a switch to the Emirates and he’s far more likely to join Man Utd if he does come to the Premier League this summer.
