Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal join Man Utd in the race to sign Thomas Meunier….
Arsenal are ready to do-battle with Manchester United over the signing of Thomas Meunier as Paris Saint-Germain prepare to sell the full-back for £26.5m this summer, according to reports in France via the Mirror.
Meunier has made over 100 appearances for PSG since joining the club from Club Brugge in 2016 and he’s helped the French giants secure a whole host of trophies including three consecutive Ligue 1 titles.
However, the 27-year-old was in and out the first team this season with Thomas Tuchel preferring Thilo Kehrer and Colin Dagba at right-back on occasion and it seems PSG are ready to cash-in on the Belgian international this summer.
Meunier has just one year remaining on his contract and the Mirror are citing France Football as claiming that PSG will sell if an offer worth around £26.5m is put on the table during the summer transfer window.
The situation has reportedly alerted clubs here in the Premier League as the Daily Mail claimed recently that Manchester United have opened initial talks to try and land Meunier after identifying him as a cheaper alternative to Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is gearing-up for a busy summer after United finished sixth in the table this season and the Norwegian coach needs a new right-back as Antonio Valencia will leave Old Trafford next month.
Meunier is seemingly on United’s radar but they’ll now face stiff competition as the Mirror are citing France Football* as saying that Arsenal are also targetting a swoop for the Belgian full-back this summer.
Unai Emery needs to strengthen at right-back as Stephan Lichtsteiner will leave the Emirates this summer after a disappointing spell so Arsenal desperately need some cover and competition for Hector Bellerin – who’s still recovering from a serious knee injury.
Emery knows Meunier from their time together at PSG and the Arsenal boss is now eyeing a reunion in north London as he looks to shore up a defence that conceded 51 goals in the Premier League this season.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but it looks like Arsenal and United could be set for a battle over Meunier’s signature if he decides on a move to England this summer. If Arsenal can beat Chelsea in the Europa League final and book their place in the Champions League next season, then they could be viewed as favourites for his signature.
