Key duo return as Poch makes 6 changes | Expected Tottenham line-up vs Liverpool
Tottenham will look to win the Champions League for the first time in their history when they take on Liverpool in Madrid on Saturday evening. Spurs can be backed at odds of 2.70 to lift the trophy tomorrow night.
Here is the side we think Mauricio Pochettino will select for the game:
Goalkeeper: I don’t think there is any doubt over who’ll start in goal as Hugo Lloris is certain to keep his place between the sticks with Pablo Gazzaniga once again on the bench.
Defence: Tottenham are likely to go with a back four with Kieran Tripper selected ahead of Serge Aurier despite speculation linking him with a move this summer. Kyle Walker-Peters will make way after making a rare run out against Everton on the final day of the Premier League season.
Toby Alderweireld is expected to partner Jan Vertonghen in the middle of defence with Davinson Sanchez hoping to make the bench after recovering from a thigh injury. Danny Rose should get recalled to replace Ben Davies at left-back.
Midfield: Tottenham have been handed a huge boost as Harry Winks is back in contention after returning to full training following a niggling groin injury that’s hampered him in recent months. The England international is expected to start as long as he’s deemed fit enough to last the 90 minutes.
Moussa Sissoko should keep his place in midfield while Christian Eriksen is likely to be deployed in a deeper role in a midfield three to match Liverpool’s formation so Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama may have to settle for places on the bench.
Attack: Tottenham have been handed a second significant boost ahead of the game as Harry Kane has made a swift recovery from an ankle ligament injury. The hitman has been in full training for over a week but it remains to be seen whether Pochettino will risk him from the start.
It’s a huge decision for the Argentinean coach to make but I just don’t see how he can leave Kane out if he’s recovered from his ankle injury so I expect to see him leading the line up front against Liverpool tomorrow night. You can get odds of 6.00 on Kane to score the first goal here.
Dele Alli is expected to keep his place in the front three while Hueng-min Son should also start following an excellent campaign and they should support Kane in the Tottenham attack.
That means Lucas Moura would be the man to miss out which will be extremely harsh considering it was his hat-trick against Ajax in the semi-finals that booked Tottenham’s place in the final against Liverpool.
However, Pochettino will have to leave someone out and I think Moura will be named on the bench along with Erik Lamela and Fernando Llorente.
Here is how I expect Spurs to line-up:
