Man Utd vs Tottenham preview | Confirmed team news | Expected line-up’s | Prediction

Jose Mourinho returns to Old Trafford when his Tottenham side take on Manchester United this evening. 

Mourinho has enjoyed a solid start to life in north London since replacing Mauricio Pochettino late last month as he’s led Tottenham to three consecutive victories in all competitions but this will be his hardest test yet.

Saturday’s 3-2 victory over Bournemouth saw Spurs climb up to sixth in the Premier League table so they’ll be hoping to close the gap on the top four with another win over Man Utd this evening.

Tottenham will face a United side that are on a poor run of form as the Red Devils are winless in their last three games and have picked up just two points from their last two Premier League matches.

After drawing 3-3 at Sheffield United, Man Utd were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Aston Villa at the weekend leaving them 10th in the table so the pressure is on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to get back to winning ways tonight.

Team news

Manchester United have been dealt a blow with the news that Anthony Martial is set to miss tonight’s game with a muscle injury. Sky Sports claim the attacker picked up the issue against Villa and won’t be fit tonight but Scott McTominay is expected to return after recovering from an ankle injury.

United have confirmed Nemanja Matic could also return to the squad after missing the last month with a muscle problem but Paul Pogba remains on the sidelines as he’s still lacking match fitness after recently returning to training following an ankle issue.

Solskjaer is being tipped to switch to a back three this evening but he’ll be without defenders Eric Bailly, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Diogo Dalot as they continue to build fitness after injury.

Tottenham will be without Ben Davies once again as the defender is facing a spell on the sidelines with an ankle injury so Danny Rose could return at left-back this evening.

Erik Lamela is also still out with a hamstring problem while Hugo Lloris won’t return until the early stages of 2020 as he works his way back from a dislocated elbow.

Man Utd 2-2 Tottenham: Spurs will be buoyed by their recent good record away to United as they’ve won three of their last seven league visits to Old Trafford. Mourinho will also be desperate to get one over his former side but Tottenham have conceded six goals in their three games under the Portuguese coach so United should get plenty of opportunities tonight.

Solskjaer is in desperate need of a positive result to ease the growing pressure on his shoulders and United know a loss could all-but end their top four hopes this season. I’m expecting a decent game and have a feeling the points will be shared.
