Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has praised centre-back Jeremy Jacquet following the 2-1 comeback win over Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Reds returned to winning ways in the league with a 2-1 victory over the Bees on the road.
The Merseyside giants did not register a shot on target in the opening half and fell behind through Keane Lewis-Potter’s 44th-minute goal.
However, Andoni Iraola’s side were handed a huge advantage before the break as Yehor Yarmolyuk was sent off for a blatant headbutt on Jacquet from a corner.
The Reds dominated proceedings after the break, securing a 2-1 win. Brentford finished the game with nine men after Vitaly Janelt’s sending off in stoppage time.
Alexander Isak and Victor Munoz stepped up with crucial goals, but Jacquet was once again impressive in the heart of the defence for the Anfield outfit.
He won an impressive 10 duels with four clearances, four interceptions, two recoveries and a couple of successful tackles.
The Frenchman had 72 touches in the match with 39 accurate passes.
After the victory, Jacquet went on Instagram to celebrate with the caption: “Fight and win. See you Tuesday at Anfield.”
Szoboszlai was undoubtedly impressed by his teammate and described his performance as ‘Best’.
Undroppable
Jacquet has proved a brilliant acquisition for the Reds since his £60 million move from Rennes. The Frenchman has seamlessly adapted to the pace and intensity of the Premier League, partnering Virgil van Dijk in central defence.
He has been brilliant with his positioning and defensive contributions, and he was recently rewarded with his full France debut by head coach Zinedine Zidane during the Nations League group stage after injuries to several regular centre-backs.
Regardless, he would have made the squad due to his immense quality. With the move to Anfield, Jacquet has put himself right into the spotlight unlike at Rennes, where he was probably not getting the same amount of attention.
The 21-year-old has definitely become an undisputed starter in the right centre-back role for Liverpool and seems undroppable. His fine form has meant that the more experienced summer signing Ronald Araujo has played as a right-back, where he has been equally good.
