Hernandez’s move to United in serious doubt following permit complication
By Ross Mackiewicz.
Javier Hernandez’s dream of playing for Manchester United may be about to vanquish despite an agreed transfer of £7million which saw him unveiled with a United shirt at Old Trafford.
In order for the 21 year old Mexican to play on English shores he must have played 75% of his countries international games in the last two years which the UK home office requires. ‘El Chacarito’ has failed to do so and this has put his move to Manchester in real jeopardy. The Red Devils are now in a tangle with the FA as they try to haggle for a compromise to allow him to play in the Premier League. Therefore they will now forward an application for the Mexican international as an ‘exceptional talent’ who cannot be recruited within the European Union for a similar valuation.
Hernandez is currently contracted to C.D. Guadalajara of Mexico and came on as a substitute this past Monday night for his country against England at Wembley. He has made 73 appearances for his club, netting 29 times in the process. He has also made 10 appearances for Mexico and scored a return of 5 goals.
It is not the first time Sir Alex Ferguson has encountered problems with work permits. A deal to sign Brazilian Celio Silva back in 1997 fell through after his application for a work permit was turned down. Park Ji Sung who has gone onto establish himself as a versatile member of the United squad also endured permit complications prior to his move from PSV Eindhoven five years ago where he eventually won his case.
